“Don’t the years fly by in a blink of an eye, and here I was about to become eighty. My wife and I decided that such a milestone should be celebrated, and so we agreed that we would have a party for our family and closest friends. So we booked the venue, met with the caterers and sent out the invitations, but with the caveat on the invitation that whilst I wanted our family and friends’ presence I did not want any presents, but if they really wanted to mark this milestone in my life then I would be delighted if they would make a donation to the UCH Cancer Fund.
I have prostate cancer so their donations to the Fund meant so much to me. The kindness, courtesy, care and wonderful treatment that I have received from Dr Heather Payne and her team, as well as everyone that I have come in contact with at UCH has been beyond words and by doing this it would go in some small way of saying thank you. So I just ask all of you who read this who are about to celebrate some wonderful event in your lives to think about my story and help raise so much more needed funds for this wonderful unit.”
